210-211? would 3156s work ok?
i have 4 of them and debating on playing or trading them.
having read about the awesomeness of them. i would love to hear what they sound like. maybe even cut down versions. IDK

Well. . . They weren't really made for horn loaded applications, so I'm afraid they wouldn't sound the same. I can tell you the 210s with 515s are truly awesome. They are jaw dropping. Probably because most folks have never been a speaker that can actually direct the low frequency forward. They continue to project bass even out to 400 yards and beyond.

If you want to hear some in action, I will have a set of 210s set up for a two day festival in Mountain Home, AR on June 26 & 27. Red, White and Blue festival.

agree about the 210/211/515's.

i went to mountain home back in '84.

Based on published specs, Vas is much too small, so the rear chamber needs to be a lot smaller/ducted port and its HF frequency response is much too flat for them to extend its frequency response out far enough to blend to a 500 Hz horn plus it needs a HF mass corner = ~185 Hz, which is nearly a half octave below even the small horn cab's, so will probably need significant EQ to flatten it out over a wide BW; or just load them up and EQ the whole shebang now that frequency shaping digital EQ is so inexpensive, just don't expect them to sound as 'sweet' as 515 loaded horns or as 'tight' as a 3156 specific horn alignment.

The 3156, as GM said, likes a smaller rear enclosure. Properly set up it is awesome on it's own, but from a higher starting frequency. It is what I would call a mid bass. OTOH in the proper horn can go surprisingly low, but is xMax limited.

i didn't really think they would do all that well. i just thought maybe i could put them to good use. i guess if i'm going the 210 route, i might as well go with tried and true. so i could build a pair of 8156s, but i don't believe they would go down low as i want.
starting to realise i don't have room for the speakers much less the cabinets to put them in.
i guess i might as well put them on the block.

i have the 3124s i'm thinking i might do something with those instead. but that's another thread.
